About Breaker Off
Most wiring diagrams online are a picture someone drew once. Every diagram here is a circuit that a simulator has switched through every position before it was published.
How a diagram is made
Each diagram starts as a description of the real circuit: which boxes, which cables between them, and where every wire lands. The drawing, the plain-English connection list and the live breaker view are all made from that one description, so they cannot disagree.
How it is checked
Before a page is built, a simulator flips every switch through every position and checks that the light, fan or outlet is on exactly when it should be, that nothing shorts hot to neutral or ground, that no neutral passes through a switch, that every device is grounded, and that no wire is left loose. A diagram that fails is not published.
What it follows
Common US residential practice under the National Electrical Code: white wires used as hots are re-marked and only carry the supply to a switch, smart switches that need a neutral get one, fans are never put on light dimmers. Wire sizes come from NEC Table 310.16 and Chapter 9, Table 8.
What it is not
It is not a substitute for your local code, your inspector or a licensed electrician. Turn off the breaker and test before you touch anything.
